Supermans gay
'How Gay Is Superman?'
June 19, 2006 — -- He's clearly into fitness, and splashy summer colors.
The new film about the Man of Steel, "Superman Returns" -- which comes out, er, on June 28 -- is creature advertised on Logo, the gay and lesbian cable TV channel. Now, the gay magazine, The Advocate, is asking "How Same-sex attracted Is Superman?"
The Advocate is not claiming that Superman is gay. It's making a larger point -- that like many gays and lesbians, Superman has a secret life. In the closet or cell booth, as the case may be, Superman has another identity that he doesn't share with anyone.
Nonetheless, Warner Bros. executives -- perhaps afraid questions about the Man of Steel's sexual orientation may marginalize the film -- contain pushed back on The Advocate's query and the Internet buzz it has created.
The film's director, Bryan Singer, who is gay, insisted to Reuters that Superman "is probably the most heterosexual traits in any movie I've ever made." Whatever that means.
It's an unusual second for superheroes and outing.
DC Comics, which publishes "Superman," recently revealed that Batwo
Superman has come out as bisexual. Or more accurately, Superman’s son – Jonathan Kent – who has recently taken on his father’s role in DC Comics, has been depicted kissing another male traits in a panel from a forthcoming comic.
Although the wider public has only recently been made aware of this, comic readers have suspected it for several months after a growing romance between Kent and journalist, Jay Nakamura, in recent issues of Superman: Son of Kal-El. And Kent has introduced his boyfriend to his parents in recent issues of the comic he stars in.
The discovery that a Superman is bisexual is a massive deal in terms of superhero comics, but it hasn’t gone down good with everyone. Former Superman actor Dean Cain claimed the move would contain been brave 20 years ago but now was “bandwagoning”.
Various Republican senators in the US have complained, including Arizona state senator Wendy Rogers who called him “a woke Superman”. Josh Mandel, who is trying for a senate seat, said, “Bisexual comics for kids [are] trying to destroy America.” And another Arizona Republican, Josh Barnett, asked “Why does Hollywood have to corrupt everything?”
In the book The Superhero Symbol, which transport
For most little boys of my generation, and several before, the only guy who could conceivably acquire beaten up their father was Superman. Which is why now discovering that Superman is sexually attracted to men is so brilliantly subversive. It’s enjoy discovering Mount Everest is gay.
Back in August, DC Comics artist Ethan van Sciver first broke the news that Superman was coming out, although then it sounded as if the plan was for him to be fully gay, and not just bi, during a YouTube livestream. ‘I estimate Clark Kent is going bye bye,’ he said. ‘Superman is effectively queer everyone. He is gay.’ Now the first images have been released of the new Superman – Jonathan Kent – deeply French kissing his partner Jay, of all things a journalist.
Does it matter if your dad loses in a fist fight to a dude who kisses other men? Well, no. At least, not in any way that can be sensibly justified as an elder. Which isn’t to speak it wouldn’t have mattered a very great deal in the playground. Support then, when comics mattered and we didn’t really understand that being lgbtq+ was anything other than an insult to be levelled at all things consid
Except, hmm, this seemed pretty unlikely to me. Superhero comics are still overwhelmingly straight, so the odds of DC revealing two major franchise characters as queer within the span of a few months are pretty steep — especially one who is currently wearing the mantle of Superman. So I did a bit of digging to figure out how this rumor got started.
Good news: it’s hilarious.
First, though, who is Jon Kent? Jon is the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane. He debuted in 2015 and is best famous for costarring in the delightful all-ages Super Sons with Damian Wayne, son of Batman and current Robin. Due to convoluted plot shenanigans, Jon was abruptly aged up from 10 years old to 17 a couple years ago, something I plan to harbor simmering resentment about for the repose of my innate life.

Until recently, Jon went by Superboy, but as of July, the regular Superman comic manual has been insert on hiatus, and Jon has been starring in a monthly series called Superman: Son of Kal-El. The two issues that acquire published so far have both been excellent.
So! The rumor.
