    A recent study in JAMA Internal Medicine led by HMS MD student Michael Liu and Keuroghlian found significant increases in poor health outcomes for transgender and gender diverse adults compared to cisgender adults from 2014 to 2022, a time marked by escalating attacks on transgender health care and access to public accommodations in many states in the U.S. The worsening health disparities were especially apparent in self-reported mental distress and depression.

    While they did not gather any direct evidence linking these policy changes to increasing disparities, the researchers said that they are an obvious source of stress, which has been shown to be a major driver of health disparities in multiple studies.

    “Our findings certainly suggest that this hostile environment is eroding the health of an already very vulnerable population,” Liu said.

    Students at Harvard Medical School can learn about how to provide healthcare to infants who are supposedly LGBTQIA+, according to a course catalog description.

    In the course "Caring for Patients with Diverse Sexual Orientations, Gender Identities, and Sex Development," which is regularly available at the school, students are offered the opportunity to labor with "patients [who] spot as lesbian, gay, fluid, transgender, queer, intersex or asexual," as first reported by The College Fix.

    "Clinical exposure and education will focus on serving gender and sexual minority people across the lifespan, from infants to older adults," the course description says.

    Response to reports about HMS medical learning course

    Harvard Medical School created the Sexual and Gender Minority Health Initiative to educate and train medical students in caring for LGBTQIA+ individuals and to address the needs of this population.

    Recent reports referencing one of our medical education courses possess neglected to bring up that some infants are born with variations in sex development. HMS is sharing the remark below to clarify and correct these misunderstandings and inaccuracies related to development students to concern for infants who have variations in sex development.

    Raising awareness of and caring for diverse populations in order to gather their clinical, medical, and health protect needs are primary tenets of widespread health, and of HMS’ mission and values.

    One of the nation's most historically prestigious universities is offering a course that instructs students how to provide healthcare services to LGBT individuals, including "infants" categorized as sexual minorities. 

    The Harvard Medical College course, dubbed "Caring for Patients with Diverse Sexual Orientations, Gender Identities, and Sex Development," includes a course description that outlines how students will understand to provide "high-quality, culturally responsive care" for "patients [who] identify as womxn loving womxn, gay, bisexual, gender nonconforming, queer, intersex or asexual."
