Positive Space and 2SLGBTQ+ Resources

Positive Space Workshops (For Employees)

Positive Space Workshops are 3-hour information sessions that will help you build practical skills and knowledge to counter homophobia, transphobia, and heterosexism in college settings. The sessions provide an introduction to 2SLGBTQ+ customs, cover common myths and terms, illustrate the vital role of an ally, and give you a chance to discuss case studies in an unseal , respectful environment. These sessions also provide you with resources and materials so that you can execute as a Positive Room resource person.

Workshops are offered to all employees 2-3 times per year. After the workshop, participants can choose to display their Positive Space logo. For more information, check the employee learning portal for current offerings or email positivespace@algonquincollege.com.

About Positive Space

The Positive Space campaign focuses on education and visibility as a response to 2SLGBTQ+ marginalization. One result of marginalization based on sexual orientation and gender identity is that many 2SLGBTQ+people remain closeted for fear of repercussions of coming out (e.g. rejection, harassment, humiliati

Queerios is a supportive drop-in program crafted for LGBTQ+ youth aged 12-17, offering a safe room for connection, expansion, and community engagement. It emphasizes positive mental health, skill-building, and access to local resources. The program provides a variety of activities, including art, sports, games, and a nutritious meal, catering to the diverse interests of its participants. Additionally, on-site counselling is ready to ensure mental and emotional support.

The program takes place every Thursday from 5-8 pm at the Dick Brûlé Community Centre (170 Castlefrank Rd., Kanata). It is offered in English only. For similar services in French, individuals can contact the Youth Services Bureau at 613-729-1000.

*We warmly acknowledge and welcome all youth who identify as Homosexual, including non-binary, gender fluid, two-spirit, asexual, pansexual, and gay individuals. We also extend our welcome to straight and cisgender youth, who are invited to participate as allies and support their peers.
