I’m hunched over a smoky glass table covered with a treasure trove of photographs, shivering from the chilly breeze conditioning as much as from the excitement of detecting photographic gold nuggets. I’m alone, but surrounded by faces smiling to me across the decades.
There’s a shirtless, mustachioed blond on roller skates in front of a 1965 red Plymouth Barracuda; the position of the Giant Dipper roller coaster and street signage in the background establishes the photo was taken in the vicinity of the Apartment, a women’s gay bar that opened in Mission Beach in 1974. Another photo presents a dance floor crowd, beaming faces glistening under a sheen of sweat, big 1980s hair and lip gloss in full influence on the women (and on some men, too). When do you host karaoke?
Generally, we host our famous karaoke Thursday & Fridays 8 pm- 2 am, unless we host our monthly event like trivia that may go a few minutes slow. You can always grab a brew and map out your song while you enjoy a cocktail. Saturdays we often have karaoke if we don't have a particular music event (sometimes we have both but in separate areas!) It's fun at times when I used to depart more often. But, I was really looking forward to hanging out with my friends this evening. I have been to flicks many times. The last time was when california came out with the digital IDs that you can add to your Google wallet; that you have to scan your finger to start, and I was enable in. This evening, I was turned away. As I was walking advocate to my car to leave, I ran into other friends and was told that they knew the guards and they never checked their IDs. I did see other people let in without IDs, so even though I was hesitant, I went with them anyway. Everyone got in with IDs being checked, and I was rejected AGAIN!!! Honestly, I was ok with it, until, one guard said "nope, he doesn't have his(me) ID", which I did, just not the physical one, and the other guard when I asked, "why can you just glance at it; there's securities set, like a finger scan just to even access my ID." I was told that they (the guards) have to scan EVERY ID (yet people walked in without showing it prior to me.) "Incase something happened." He said. YET, THE OTHER PEOPLE I WAS WITH WAS LET IN, NO ID CHECK, AND SOME OTHER
