Gay Tales and Verses from the Arabian Nights

Indecency - It isn't just for infidels anymore!

Reading this publication is something fancy the gay similar of reading the highlighted bits from a banned, dog-eared copy of Peyton Place. This volume concentrates on the excerpted "wicked bits" from the Arabian Nights. Starting with a story segment called "Tale of Abu Shamat" we're given the homoerotic section of one of the 1001 tales. There is no scholarly narrative explaining just where this fits into the overall story line, just the excerpted bit and yet, its still delicious to grasp that such tales existed even so long ago as when this was first told around a fire and then written down.

Other bits seem to be more finish stories though there does appear to be a lot of wine drinking for what are essentially Islamic stories. Many tales look to deal with lusting after immature and innocent beauties and the poems of the bath house are particularly good. There is even a beautiful complete story about a prophecy that may be fulfilled by accident when a shipwrecked traveler meets a juvenile man whose been hidden on an island in direct to protect him. Finally, the last sections of the

Arabian Nights

A Queer Film Classic on 1974's Arabian Nights by Pier Paolo Pasolini, the controversial Italian director who was murdered under mysterious circumstances in 1975.

Already internationally distinguished as a poet, novelist, and outspoken social critic of the postwar period, Pasolini turned to filmmaking around 1960. In little more than a decade, he produced one of the most remarkable bodies of work in cinema history, beginning with his in advance film-portraits of the struggles of underclass youths and extending through his adaptations of such sacred or mythic narratives as the stories of Oedipus and Medea and the Gospel of St. Matthew. In what turned out to be the last years of his career, Pasolini turned to several classic works of chain-narrative -The Arabian Nights, The Decameron, The Canterbury Tales, and Sade's The 120 Days of Sodom--as models for his own radical spread of cinema's capacities for telling, showing, and enacting embodiment, nudity, and sexual desires and behaviours.

This book explores the legacy and context of Arabian Nights, in many ways the most optimistic and appealing of Pasolini's tardy films, not only in the final explosive ph

It’s being billed as a night to “dance to amazing Arabic music,” but this dance party’s ultimate goal is unity. Arabian Knights, taking place on Feb 26, 2016, is the brain-child of two friends: Kerolos Saleib, a Toronto local originally from Alexandria, Egypt; and DJ Louay, a recently landed refugee from Syria who is in the process of starting his animation over in Canada.

“You don’t have to let leave of your culture and the things you treasure about your culture because of what happened advocate home,” Saleib says. “[Middle Eastern LGBT people] abscond everything that’s happening support home, the religious traumas and the wars, and they want a surpass future for themselves.”

Before coming to Canada, Louay organized LGBT events in Syria — and for a time, it was a success. “Before the war we used to perform this party without any bad things happening from the government,” he says. But in a region where homosexuality is punishable by up to three years in prison, he had to be attentive. As long as he kept the parties silent and underground, holding them in rented villas and mansions in the suburbs of Damascus, Aleppo and Latakia,

Kerolos Saleib: Arabian Knights LGBTQ

Hello BUZZies, and welcome to my new monthly blog “Some of My Most Favourite People”.

The name of the blog says it all, the concept is to interview folks whom I either know in the community, or admire from the work that I have seen them do. Some of theBUZZ readers may recall I did two web episodes under this specify ,  Joie Lamar and Stacey Vetzal, but we’re going to mix it up, so moving forward some of my interviews are going to be written, and occasionally I may do it on video.

I was introduced to Kerolos Saleib at Yalla Bara, the Arabic programming that Lgbtq+ fest Toronto had in 2016 at the Wellesley stage. I noticed a bunch of Middle Eastern guys chatting together in groups, and I asked a friend if there is an Arabic social club or such that I had never heard of. I was told that Kerolos had been putting a dance party together for a number of months called Arabian Knights. So, I went up to launch myself and asked him how theBUZZ can help him promote the party, because I consideration it was an excellent concept. Since then I got to know a really great guy in Kerolos, who is community spirited and kind, and he fits in the name sake of my
