We are officially in the middle of 2024 Self-acceptance, with rainbow flags popping up in store windows as businesses across the country show their sustain for the LGBTQ+ community.
This month, Newsweek published its latest ranking of America's Greatest Workplaces for Homosexual. Newsweek partnered with statistics analytics firm Plant-A for the second year in a row to distinguish the top 400 companies across 78 industries that are taking meaningful steps to be inclusive and supportive to members of the LGBTQ+ community.
The ranking was determined through a five-part evaluation. This included a pre-study survey with HR professionals, reviews from more than 29,000 Queer employees, research into KPIs and media monitoring of relevant press. Scores for individual companies were calculated based on Plant-A's scoring model and given a star rating of one to five stars. Only the top companies—those with four, four and a half and five stars—were included in the ranking.
In addition to supporting Queer employees internally, many of these companies make actions to support the society externally year-round.

Pride Month serves as a reminder of the progress made for LGBTQ+ representation worldwide, and is a particular opportunity to highlight LGBTQIA+ owned brands. Helping shoppers learn about these companies encourages support beyond the month of June, especially when visibility is more important than ever: Even though more than 50 years have passed since the Stonewall uprising, discriminatory anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, anti-LGBTQ+ despise and major companies rolling back their LGBTQ+ back are rising at alarming rates.
“Queer entrepreneurs are going to look at the world differently because the world is not always a safe or caring place for us,” says Helen Russell, a co-founder of Equator Coffees. “Increased exposure for these brands can mean new allies, not just new customers.”
We spoke to Russell and several other LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs to learn more about the successes and challenges they face while running their companies. We also rounded up our favorite LGBTQ+ owned brands to shop from, and notable products we think you should know about.
